Unity is a positive alternative
to traditional forms of Christian thinking and worship.
Our services are informal, contemporary, and very positive.
Unity teaching are based on
the teachings of Jesus, as found in the Gospels.
We believe Jesus taught a universal message of love with a deep trust,
based in his connection to his higher, inner Source.
Our goal is to deepen our connection to this higher inner Source.
The Unity tradition is one of silent prayer and connection.
Our services at UKV include great music, a positive lesson,
and a time for quiet reflective prayer.
There are no creedal
statements in Unity, since we recognize that everyone is on his or her own path
of spiritual discovery. We do have several statements that seem to sum up the
Unity approach for many. A favorite one is: "It's all good!"
What are Unity's
basic teachings?
We encourage people to explore and apply Unity
teachings based on their own spiritual understanding.
We believe this
spiritual understanding is enhanced through reflective prayer and
meditation.
The five basic ideas that make up the Unity belief system
are:
-
God is good and everywhere present.
-
The spirit of God lives within each person,
therefore, all people are inherently good.
-
We create our life experiences through our way
of thinking.
-
There is power in affirmative prayer,
which we
believe increases our connection to God.
-
Knowledge of these spiritual principles is not enough,
we must live them.
Our Basic Affirmation, which we say out-loud and silently at the start
of each service:
We hold in
thought and in action the truth of this statement.
